September is synonymous with starting over: calendars fill up again, the streets regain their spirit and our list of good intentions starts to grow. In Barcelona, the rentrée also means culture with a capital C. This autumn, the six Articket museums are kicking off the season with six major exhibitions that will take you on a journey from the most personal intimacy to the great collective debates. Jot them down and start your journey!
Ink against Hitler, at the MNAC
📅 October 7, 2025 – January 11, 2026
Explore the work of Mario Armengol Torrella, the only Catalan artist to work for British propaganda during the Second World War. Through hundreds of cartoons full of humour and criticism, the exhibition shows how “ink” can become a powerful tool of visual resistance against Nazism.
Miró and the United States, at the Fundació Joan Miró
📅 October 10, 2025 – February 22, 2026
Through an intergenerational dialogue, the exhibition highlights how the work of Joan Miró and that of American artists mutually enriched one another. Placing the USA at the centre of Miró’s evolution, it offers a new narrative that revisits his artistic legacy with an expanded perspective, showcasing figures such as Louise Bourgeois, Helen Frankenthaler, Lee Krasner, Arshile Gorky, Alice Trumbull Mason, Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko, among many others.
Germaine Dulac. Je n’ai plus rien, at the Museu Tàpies
📅 October 16, 2025 – February 22, 2026
Curated by Imma Prieto and Imma Merino, the exhibition vindicates Germaine Dulac, a pioneer of surrealist cinema and a silent figure of the avant-garde. Through her filmic and theoretical work, it reflects how her work challenged hegemonic and patriarchal discourses of the interwar period. It represents the recovery of a fundamental voice for understanding images as inner exploration.
Project a Black Planet. The Art and Culture of Pan-Africa, at the MACBA
📅 November 6, 2025 – April 6, 2026
The first major international exhibition to analyse Pan-Africanism — a movement born out of the First Pan-African Congress of 1919 — from the field of art and culture. Curated by Elvira Dyangani Ose, among others, it presents some 350 pieces by a hundred artists from 80 countries. It is a journey that highlights a still little-explored global artistic narrative.
Ubu painter. Alfred Jarry and the Arts, at the Museu Picasso
📅 November 27, 2025 – April 6, 2026
Focusing on the playwright Alfred Jarry, creator of Ubu Roi, this exhibition highlights the influence of his artistic universe on Picasso and other artists around him, such as Bonnard, Gauguin, Toulouse-Lautrec, Miró and surrealists like Man Ray and Duchamp. It also includes an “expodossier” on Picasso and surrealist magazines.
Rodoreda, a Forest, at the CCCB
📅 5 de desembre 2025 – 25 de maig 2026
The CCCB transforms the exhibition space into a symbolic forest to delve into the literary and personal universe of Mercè Rodoreda. The tour, constructed as a network of roots, trunks and branches, explores themes such as exile, war, childhood and fiction, combining original documents with contemporary work inspired by the Rodoredian imaginary.
